Head and Neck Cancer Services
After radiation/chemo/surgery from head and neck cancer, significant changes can occur in a person's ability to swallow and communicate. Speech therapy services can help you improve your articulation after oral surgery. Jaw problems such as trismus can occur after radiation therapy. Your speech therapist is trained to help you regain use of your jaw, mouth, tongue etc.
Communicating after a Laryngectomy or Vocal Fold Removal
Speech therapy services can help you regain the ability to communicate after a total laryngectomy and removal of your vocal folds. Speech therapists are trained in the use of electro larynx technology and can help you select the correct device for your communication needs. If your physician feels that a tracheal esophageal puncture is appropriate for your communication, your therapist can help you manage the prosthesis.
