Athletic Movement Screen
Prevention of Injury & Performance Enhancement Program
The Athlete Movement Screening (AMS) is a system of simple quantifiable methods for evaluating basic movement patterns and abilities based on the components of the Functional Movement Screening.™ This screening identifies and assesses movement patterns to pinpoint functional limitations and alleviates them by assigning corrective exercises, giving the athlete greater movement efficiency and leading to improved performance and decreasing the potential for injury. This screening is performed at UOC by our team of experts.
While athletes are continually working to improve performance by increasing strength, flexibility and power, many continue to train and compete at high levels despite their inability to perform basic fundamental movement patterns. As a result, athletes develop poor movement patterns and train with pre-existing problems instead of training to improve areas of weakness. These patterns create limitations and imbalances, significantly distorting motor learning and altering movement perception, body awareness and mechanics. Here are some of the benefits:
Benefits
- Helps to identify areas of compensation when the body is out of balance
- Identifies areas of weakness to address with an off-season conditioning program
- Improves movement efficiency by focusing on mobility and stability about the muscles and joints
- Helps athletes understand the relationship between functional movement and sport performance
