Utah Poison Control

Give your back a rest and your mind a new challenge at the Utah Poison Control Center!

Conveniently located adjacent to the University of Utah campus in Research Park, the Utah Poison Control Center (UPCC) provides a 24-hour emergency telephone triage and information service to the general public and healthcare professionals of Utah.

UPCC is staffed by a multi-disciplinary team consisting of registered nurses, pharmacists, and physicians and provides consultative services on a wide range of poisoning exposures involving pharmaceuticals, household products and chemicals, natural toxins, pesticides, and many others.

UPCC receives an average of 150 calls per day; the call center is staffed by nurses and pharmacists who serve as our Specialists in Poison Information. Each call is unique and requires our Specialists to rapidly gain a complete understanding of the caller's needs.  Once this is achieved, Specialists utilize their toxicology training, their assessment skills, and a variety of resources to accurately formulate and communicate risk associated with the exposure to the caller and provide recommendations for specific treatments and/or need for medical evaluation.   Many cases are followed through by our Specialists via telephone callbacks to reassess the evolving course of the patient and provide revised treatment recommendations, to ensure recommendations are understood, and to achieve optimal medical outcomes.

Our Specialists undergo 12 weeks of clinical toxicology training before independently answering poison exposure calls as Specialists in Poison Information.

Being a 24-hour service, a variety of shifts are available to maintain work-life balance. Additionally, UPCC offers a very generous benefit package.
