Acute Care & Orthopedic -Trauma Unit

This fast paced unit with a very diverse patient population is the place to work!  Acute Care Ortho-Trauma (6 North) is a 35 bed unit which covers a wide range of services for Orthopedic & Trauma patients as well as those patients admitted from other services. Our nurses are integral members of a collaborative Interdisciplinary team.  Nurses are supported by unit-based case management, social work, pharmacist, Ortho physical therapist, and a network of clinicians from all medical specialties.  Acute Care Ortho-Trauma is a great place to develop and practice your nursing skills whether you just received your nursing degree or are an experienced RN.

You will gain experience in caring for a wide variety of patents including those requiring:

  • Care of complicated injuries
  • Wound Care
  • Traction
  • Mobility

You will be an integral part of the team caring for the following types of patients:

  • Orthopedic surgery
  • Orthopedic Trauma
  • Trauma
  • Burn/Trauma surgery
  • General surgery
  • Vascular surgery
  • Plastic surgery

Other services as necessary including:

  • Neurology
  • Pulmonary
  • Cardiology
  • Medicine

Acute Care Ortho - Trauma offers a wide variety of opportunities including:

  • An orientation program which provides a safe and structured learning environment. Each new orientee will be assigned a primary preceptor based on personal needs and personality and will orient a minimum of 6 weeks.
  • Nurse patient ratios of 4:1 - 5:1
  • Flexible work schedule of eight-hour shifts, 12-hour shifts or a combination of both.
  • A supportive management team that believes in open communication, teamwork, and encourages staff to submit ideas to improve patient and work practices.
