Critical Care Internship Blog

The Critical Care Internship Program is a 22-week supervised program for new graduates and experienced nurses without an ICU nursing background. Some RN medical/surgical experience is preferred but not required. The program provides didactic and clinically supervised experiences, which will transition the participant to the role of an adult critical care practitioner. The program consists of the following:

  • Didactic instruction - 220 hours approximately
  • Supervised clinical experience - 600 hours approximately
Scheduled orientation, weekly conferences, basic ICU course work, and clinical rotations in our Surgical ICU, Burn Trauma ICU, Medical/Coronary ICU, Oncology Special Care Unit and Neuro Critical Care are all a part of the ICU Internship Program. Work schedules during clinical rotations will consist of working side by side with experienced RN's.

At the completion of the Critical Care Intern Program, you will be hired into one of the adult Critical Care Units where Registered Nurse positions are available. You will be required to fulfill two years of full time employment in an adult ICU at the University Hospital upon completion of the program; otherwise, reimbursement will be prorated.
