OR Internships
The OR internship course offers RNs the unique opportunity to embark on a career as a perioperative nurse. The perioperative role will bring together the traditional and expanded nursing activities during the intraoperative period that includes:
- preoperative and postoperative patient care
- patient teaching
- counseling
- assessment
- evaluation functions
Care of the surgical patient mandates the use of talking, touching, doing, and using hand and head skills to focus all efforts on the patient and the surgery.
Nurse interns are paid full salaries and receive all full-time University Hospital benefits. At the completion of this course, you will receive 144 contact hours. Post course graduates of the internship are strongly encouraged to remain and work at least 24 months following the internship program. Graduates are encouraged to take the certification examination given by the Association of Operating Room Nurses on completion of two years employment in the OR as a professional nurse.
Upon completion of this intern program, interns may be placed in the hospital OR, Huntsman Cancer Hospital OR, Wasatch Surgery Center, or Moran Eye Surgery Center, depending on the needs and positions available of said facilities, as well as intern's preferences.
