Headache Clinic

At the Clinical Neurosciences Center’s Headache Clinic it is our goal to provide comprehensive management of all types of headache disorders.  Thus, we focus not only on pharmacologic treatment, but also on the psychological and psychosocial factors associated with chronic pain.

Movement Disorders Clinic

Our Movement Disorders Clinic specializes in Parkinson disease and less common  disorders, such as progressive supranucular palsy, multi-system atrophy, and tremors. Through multi-specialty neurosciences collaboration, we provide treatment options ranging from pharmacologic intervention to, when indicated, placement of deep brain stimulation electrodes.   We also work closely with the American Parkinson Disease Association (APDA) by providing space for an onsite APDA representative, as well as an onsite patient and family educational resource center.

Multiple Sclerosis Clinic

The National Multiple Sclerosis Society estimates that “approximately 400,000 Americans have MS, and every week, about 200 people are diagnosed.  World-wide, MS affects about 2.5 million people.”  At the University of Utah Clinical Neurosciences Center, we provide a comprehensive clinic, run by leading physician researchers.  We provide diagnostic confirmation, as well as ongoing clinical care.  Because we seek to advance treatment options for all patients with Multiple Sclerosis, we actively participate in national clinical trials, including those with newer therapeutic agents.  We are closely associated with the Utah Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, and our facility provides an extensive patient and family educational resource center.

Cognitive Disorders Clinic

Our Center for Alzheimer’s Care, Imaging and Research is nationally recognized not only in care, but also in research.   We have an innovative clinical program in place and were recognized in 2007 with a Health Care Heroes Innovation Award from Utah Business Magazine.  We work with the entire spectrum of dementias and in order to ensure an accurate diagnosis, we utilize a comprehensive and unique diagnostic service that includes neuropsychometric testing and state of the art imaging .  In addition, the Center has worked diligently to create an innovative social work consult service, designed to safeguard the welfare of our patients and their families through preventive planning.  The planning is individualized and incorporates the medical diagnosis to address disease progression, safety, financial demands and caregiver support.  Woven into our spectrum of care is our Caregiver’s Resource Center, designed to be used not only for patient and family education, but as an integral tool to disease management.
