Patient Assistance
Purpose
To assist and support the staff of 6 North and 6 South in "comfort care" for patients and their families.

Qualifications
Open to all Health Sciences students and adults (Must be 18 or over)
Duties/Responsibilities

Complete department orientation prior to first volunteer shift
-
Introduce self as a volunteer to the staff and patients
-
Orient new patients and their families to their room--lights, TV, call button, bathroom, wipe-off board, telephone number, visiting hours, etc.

Escort patients being discharged, as needed
-
Make patient rounds, offer assistance

Assist patients with limitations with meals, as requested

Assist family members needing direction to the cafeteria, Starbucks, pharmacy, or other areas of the hospital

Escort patients during walking on the units
-
Give assistance to clerical staff when requested
-
Maintain patient privacy and confidentiality at all times
