How is University Health Care different from other nursing environments? We all expect excellence in patient care, and more than ever we are looking for work-life balance. At the U, these fundamental principles are implicit. The difference at the U is reflected in our vision:
To care and inspire, through compassion, professional practice, education and innovation
- Flexible work options. Our Resource department offers the flexibility of short shifts, part-time work, and job sharing. And these options are now moving to many of our units as well.
- An environment, designed by nurses, that promotes healing and patient safety. Our newest units were designed by our own bedside nurse teams to support the best possible patient care. They feature smaller pods where nurses are closer to all of their patients, medication and supplies.
- Advanced specialty training. Our nurses actively take part in service-line internship programs, clinical research, and continuing education.
- Opportunities to mentor, teach, and learn in an academic medical center. Many of our nurses choose to mentor and lead through clinical faculty appointments, teaching nursing students from area colleges.
- A collaborative atmosphere where your contributions are appreciated by the team. Our new practice standards will have nurses rounding with doctors at the bedside. We talk to doctors with the patient, not about the patient.
